Townsville Turf Club opens gates
Townsville racegoers will be trackside at the Townsville Turf Club’s first event since COVID-19 restrictions began. The Cluden based club received their COVID Safe Plan from Racing Queensland and are hosting members, owners and patrons for their first racing event in 2020. The general race day is a drawcard for members and regular patrons and signals the return of scaled back raceday calendar. Townsville Turf Club general manager Natalie Rintala said that the club has been busy preparing to open the gates. “Our patrons will be able to enjoy the recently completed refurbishments to the members precinct which is part of a $12 million revitalisation,” Ms Rintala said.
The club has been working hard on upgrading its facilities since the 2019 Townsville flood event which heavily impacted the club.
Patrons with general admission will be able to relax in the new Sports Bar, while members will have exclusive access to the exciting new Members Lounge, Members Lawns and Restaurant located at the Winning Post.
“We’ve been taking great care to retain the character of our heritage-listed buildings while ensuring our patrons are provided with fantastic facilities,” Ms Rintala said.
“We also have newly acquired the services of a dedicated, in-house caterer who will be serving an excellent variety of platters, sit down meals and grab-and-go options.
“We’ve been cautiously optimistic with our event planning and, provided restrictions continue to ease, we’ll be inviting patrons back in August.”
The Townsville Cup will be on Friday 14 August and patrons can stay up to date about tickets on the club’s Facebook page
Refurbishments are ongoing, with the general precinct at Cluden Park promising to offer Townsville a multi-purpose space for a variety of events.
The refurbishments are on track to be completed in September, in time to host Christmas and birthday parties, annual general meetings and corporate functions. Couples are already taking advantage of the permanent marquee and lawns located on the grounds for their weddings.
