Cluden Park Art Competition

Cluden Park, home of Townsville Turf Club, painting competition is open to emerging and established artists from Monday, 1 June 2020 until ,Friday, 3 July 2020 at 5pm.  There is no selection process and all entries (to a maximum of one entry per artist) will be accepted unless they fail to comply with the competitions Terms and Conditions.  Artists will be notified if works fail to comply with these conditions.

Key Dates:

Closing Date for entries: 5pm, Friday 3 July 2020

Date for personal delivery of artwork:  8am-5pm, Friday 3 July 2020

Judging:  Saturday, 4 July 2020

Announcement of winners:  10am, Sunday 5 July 2020

Date for removal of artworks: 8am-5pm, Monday, 6 July 2020

Key Criteria:
  1. Artists must register their artwork and contact details with the TTC team by phone on 07 4778 2400 between Monday, 1 June 2020 until Friday, 19 June 2020 to be eligible.
  2. Artwork received late or does not meet entry criteria will be not accepted.
  3. Artists can only use acrylic, oil, watercolour, or mixed media. No digital or sculptures.
  4. Only one (1) entry per artist
  5. Artwork must be no smaller than 841mm by 594mm (A1) size and no bigger than 3m by 3m.
  6. Artists can only enter artwork in one of the two (2) categories: Emerging or Established.
  7. All artwork must be clearly marked on the back with name of artist’s name, address, title of work and date of work.
  8. Emerging artist winning artwork will be exhibited in the Members Medley Grandstand for twelve (12) months
Conditions of Entry:
  1. Artists are invited to enter the 2020 Cluden Park Painting Competition by delivering their artwork to TTC Administration Building, located at the main entrance, between 8am-5pm on Friday, 3 July 2020. Artist must register their artwork with TTC team from Monday, 1 June 2020 until Friday, 19 June 2020 to be eligible.
  2. Closing date for entry & delivery of artwork is Friday, 3 July 2020.
  3. Artists work must incorporate the following themes – horse(s) and North Queensland iconic scene(s) and/or landscape.
  4. Artists must use only acrylic, oil, watercolour, or mixed media. No digital or sculptures allowed.
  5. One (1) entry per artist
  6. Artists can only be eligible in one category.
  7. All artwork received late or which does not meet the criteria i.e. themes will not be accepted.
  8. All artwork can be framed or unframed but must be READY TO HANG.
  9. Any images of artwork entered may be reproduced at the discretion of the Townsville Turf Club committee (including on TTC’s social media platforms) for promotional purposes and at no cost to the club.
  10. The decision of the judging panel is final and no correspondence and discussion regarding its decision will be entered. By participating in the competition, participants agree to be bound by the decisions of the competition judging panel.  It is a condition of entry that all rules are accepted as final and that the competitor agrees to abide by these rules.
  11. In the event works are deemed unsuitable or do not meet the competition criteria, the judging panel reserves the right to withdraw artists from the competition.
  12. No entry fee is required to enter this competition.
  13. All artwork must be clearly marked on the back with name of artist’s name, address, title of work and date of work.
  14. Winning Emerging Artist artwork is be exhibited in the Members Medley Grandstand for 12 months, then the artwork will be presented back to the artist, or the club can make an offer to purchase the artwork at an agreed price.
  15. Winning Established Artist is to be exhibited in the Members Lounge until it is auctioned at the Cluden Park Launch (date to be confirmed).  The winning artwork is to be the feature piece in an auction hosted by Townsville Turf Club.  All monies received for this artwork will be donated to the artist.   A reserve price is to be negotiated and agreed upon by both artist and TTC Committee prior to auction.'
  16. Insurance of the artwork must be covered by the artist. Townsville Turf Club accepts no responsibility/liability for damage of the artwork.
  17. Artists entering artwork in the competition must consent for their artwork to be showcased on the club’s website and social media platforms. The winning entries are to be exhibited in the Members Medley Grandstand for a nominated period agreed to by both parties.
  18. All artists must reside in Townsville or surrounding areas including Bowen, Ayr, Charters Towers, Mission Beach and Cardwell.

Judging Criteria:
  1. Interpretation and the clarity of the theme to the viewer.
  2. Creativity and originality of the depicted theme.
  3. Quality of artistic composition and overall design based on the theme.
  4. Overall impression of the art.What is the effect of the artwork in general and as a whole? Overall, does the artwork stand on its own as a complete and outstanding work of art?
  5. Overall general appeal. Overall, does the artwork appeal to a general audience.
  6. Two categories – Emerging Artist and Established Artist
  7. Competition Themes must be incorporated in artwork
  8. Artwork is to be painted with oil, watercolour, and acrylic paint only. Mix-media accepted.
  9. All artwork is assigned a number. Artist names will not be represented.
  10. Judges’ decision is final.
Reasons your artwork is not selected:
  1. Poor colour or image quality
  2. Artwork is not received by the due date/time.
  3. Artwork is incomplete i.e. not finished.
  4. Artwork does not represent or showcase the assigned theme(s).
