New Partnership

The Townsville Turf Club this week proudly partnered with The Golden Octopus Foundation.

To bring focus to the increased need for Regional Pediatric Oncology Services, The Townsville Turf Club will award the naming rights to two live race days in 2017/2018 racing season, bringing awareness to the worthy cause.  The promotional package, valued at over $10,000.00 is a small gesture to the community that has shown 150 years of support to the iconic club.

“The partnership is an ideal fit for both organisation’s as each have a strong connection with the Townsville community and regional Queensland” “We identified that we had an opportunity to raise awareness to support these unwell kids and their families, so we did” said Cassandra Cazzulino who is part of the newly formed Townsville Turf Club Committee.

The Golden Octopus will feature its first live race day on January 17th 2017 and the Townsville community is encouraged to take advantage of the school holidays and support the worthy cause.

Kids will receive free entry and all proceeds from adult ticket sales will kick start the Golden Octopus’s 2017 campaign.  Patrons can also donate a gold coin or two on the day.

The Golden Octopus Foundation aims to increase regional Pediatric oncology services so children can remain in their community during treatment. The Golden Octopus Foundation is a childhood cancer charity founded by Keely Johnson on the 22nd April, 2015. Overall there are eight groups of childhood cancer, so the logo and the octopus represent the eight arms of childhood cancer.

The Golden Octopus Foundation’s objectives are to improve Pediatric Oncology facilities in all regional areas, including the implementation of childhood cancer nurses, this will alleviate long stays away from families and friends. Wherever possible the foundation will also offer support to families and a long term objective will be to assist families to access trials which may not have be

en possible previously. They also work closely with other childhood cancer research charities to enable this to happen.

Keely Johnson The Founder of the Golden Octopus said, “We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with the Townsville Turf Club, race days are seen as family events and our foundation is all about families in regional areas. We need as much support as we can get and appreciate every dollar that is raised for us. As I will be in Tamworth for the first race I am hoping many people take the opportunity to go and enjoy themselves. Thanks to the Townsville Turf Club for this wonderful opportunity and I can't wait to be more involved with them all”.

The Golden Octopus Charity Race Day is on January 17th 2017

All gate proceeds will be donated to the Golden Octopus Foundation
